Everyone seems to be slowly getting rid of the V8. According to a latest report from the UK, Aston Martin boss Dr. Ulrich Bez has hinted that new generation models from the supercar maker could return to the classic straight 6-cylinder configuration for which the brand was once famous.

The Aston Martin DB7 was the last 6-cylinder Aston and Dr. Bez says he’s extremely interested in returning to a straight 6 in future road models. In an interview with Piston Heads, Bez said the company is currently interested in an inline engine of “around 2.5 liter capacity with direct injection and turbocharging.”

Bez went on to state the obvious saying that the “straight six will fit, because we can already get the V12s in.”

When will it happen? We’ll give it about 5 years.

At the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, Aston Martin will debut the 2012 Virage and 2012 Virage Volante.
