While we wait for BMW to unveil the M5, Alpina has released the first details and images of its new Alpina B5 Touring, which will be making its debut next week at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.

The Alpina B5 Touring is powered by BMW’s 4.4L twin-turbocharged V8 engine making 500-hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a 8-speed ZF transmission, 0-62 mph comes in 4.8 seconds with a top speed of 188 mph. To enhance performance, Alpina will offer a range of custom options including the option of a limited slip differential.

Why is Alpina even bother? Well, that’s because BMW has already confirmed that there will be no station wagon version of the next M5 – so it looks like the Alpina B5 is your best bet.
