Before Saab goes ahead and offers a full redesign of the 9-3 lineup, it will put the model through another facelift for the 2012 model year, which will debut at…you guessed it – the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.

For the 2012 model year, the Saab 9-3 gets new front bumpers and signature Saab ‘ice block’ headlamps. On the inside, the instrument panel, cabin decor and seat upholstery are all upgraded.

The 2012 Saab 9-3 is offered with two 2.0L gasoline engines with direct-injection, twin scroll turbo, VVT, making 163-hp and 200-hp. Combined fuel-economy and CO2 emissions are reduced by 40 percent across the range. The two new engines join the current range of 130/160/180 hp 1.9-litre TTiD twin turbo diesel line-up. Two specifications of the 2012 Saab 9-3 will be offered in the UK including SE and Aero.

Saab is also celebrating the first year of its independence with the exclusive Independence Edition of its 9-3 Convertible. Only 366 units will be made, one for each day of the first year and one extra for the start of the second year.Only 80 of these will be produced for the UK. The sole powertrain offered with the Saab 9-3 Convertible Independence Edition will be the 180-hp 1.9L twin-turbo mated to a 6-speed automatic.
