Ram may add natural gas engines to its pickups

Alternatively powered vehicles are all the rage nowadays, and in accordance, Chrysler Group is exploring the possibility of powering a portion of its Ram Truck lineup with compressed natural-gas. “I’m eager and very interested to see what we can do with CNG in our truck applications,” Fred Diaz, head of the Ram brand, said this week in an interview at the Chicago Auto Show.
Sergio Marchionne, has said that natural-gas engines make a great option to cut emissions and keep costs under control. Fiat, which is also controlled by Marchionne, is a market leader in Europe for the use of Compressed Natural Gas.
Right now, the company is considering experimenting with using CNG powered Rams to sell to fleet customers, who are likely to have their own fueling stations. The US currently ranks 14th globally in terms of sales of natural gas vehicles.
