Chinese women love their high-performance sports cars. Surprised? Well, so are we. Beijing construction company president Lily Liu has always like fast cars and the 44 year-old currently owns a Porsche 911 Carrera S. Liu is now shopping for an Aston Martin.

“Fast cars have always been a man’s world,” Liu said. “Women buying such cars are just seeking an equal standing with our male counterparts.”

Statistically, a third of China’s millionaires are woman and they are shopping for a disproportionately large share of high-performance vehicles in the world’s fastest growing economies. What high-performance brands to rich Chinese women prefer? Maserati.

Fiat says that the percentage of women buying its Maseratis in China is triple that of Europe, while the percentage buying Ferrari is double the global average. Women shoppers account for 30 percent of Maserati’s China sales compared with less than 10 percent in Europe.

Chinese millionaires increased 6.1 percent last year to 875,000. The nation has 11 of the world’s 20 richest self-made women.
