VWTF? Volkswagen recalls 20 Beetles, replaces them with identical ones

2011 Volkswagen Beetle

Here is one of the weirdest recalls we’ve probably ever seen in history. Volkswagen is recalling about 20 new Beetles and replacing them with identical vehicles. What’s the reason? Apparently there is an issue when the cars were made and whether or not they complied with particular crash-test regulations.

Starting Sept. 1, all vehicles sold in the United States had to be crash tested at 35 mph. The 20 Volkswagen Beetles being recalled were built between Sept. 1 and Sept. 22 but were crash tested at 30 mph.

According to Volkswagen spokeswoman Sheriece Matias, the 20 units must be taken off the road legally.

Customers will be given the cars that were crash tested at only 30 mph but the difference is that these cars were built before Sept.1 when a 30 mph test was legal. The recall covers a total of 27 units, 20 of which are out on the road, said Matias.
