Porsche considering Panamera and Cayenne diesel for the U.S.

Diesels are becoming increasingly popular here in the United States. So much so that Porsche is considering selling diesel variants of the Cayenne SUV and the Panamera sedan here on the stateside, it’s largest single market. At the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, Porsche is expected to unveil a diesel and Panamera Hybrid.

According to Bernhard Maier, the brand’s sales and marketing chief, the models will help Porsche to meet demand for fuel-efficient cars that is growing among luxury car shoppers.

“We are discussing internally if we should introduce the Cayenne diesel in the U.S. this year. Also a Panamera diesel is an option,” Maier told Automotive New Europe. “We will make a decision soon.”

The Porsche Cayenne diesel has been selling in Europe since early 2009. Last year, Porsche introduced a Cayenne Hybrid in Europe and the United States.
