Honda plans to quickly roll out next-generation Civic lineup
Contrary to past patterns, Honda will be rolling out the latest generation family of Civics in rapid fire succession. In the past, Honda has taken as long as years to introduce every variant Civic variant, but this year, they will all be within weeks of each other. The Civic lineup includes a sedan, coupe, multiple engine options, a lithium ion powered vehicle as well as a natural gas one, and an Si edition.
There are a number of changes made to the Civic, but none more pronounced than the interior packaging, according to Vicki Poponi, Assistant VP of Product Planning. “When you get in [the current] car, it isn’t roomy enough to be a Civic,” she said. “That was what our focus was, getting back to where we once were: compact yet surprisingly roomy.”
The new concept (which debuted at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show) retains many of the design cues of the current model, with some enhancements such as more pronounced shoulders, and a more performance-oriented look.
