Ford in line to regain No.2 sales ranking in U.S., gunning for Toyota

Ford is poised to overthrow Toyota, and regain the number 2 sales spot in the U.S., after its biggest one-year gain in market share since the 1980’s. Ford’s US sales rate has been nearly double that of the industry. 2010 also marks the first time since 1993 that Ford has posted back-to-back gains over a two year period.

Ford, being the only American manufacturer to not require government aid during the auto crisis, has been able to benefit from the difficulties of its Detroit neighbors and of Toyota. The company was also able to benefit from new models such as the F-150 pickup and Fiesta sub compact.

The company is predicting sales well over 12 million units in 2011, and perhaps closer to 13 million units.
