Mitsubishi, UAW reach agreement to built new vehicle platform in Illinois

Mitsubishi Motors North America and the United Auto Workers have reached an agreement on a new labor pact that will allow the automaker to allocate a new vehicle platform to be built at its plant in Normal, Ill.

In a joint-statement released last week, the UAW and Mitsubishi said that the new agreement “will provide job security for UAW members and that continues the long-standing partnership between MMNA and the UAW into the future.”

No details on the vehicle (or vehicles) to be built were provided. The two cited a confidentiality agreement that prevents both sides from speaking about anything until an announcement is made detailing Mitsubishi’s future plans for the plant. We’re not sure why they just didn’t wait until then.

The Mitsubishi Illinois plant currently build the Galant, Endeavor, Eclipse and Eclipse Spyder.
