Report: BMW Vision EfficientDynamics to start around $200,000

BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Prototype

The BMW Vision EfficientDynamics hybrid supercar will go into production in 2013 – we now have more details about the car via Inside Line’s interview with BMW Sales and Marketing Director Ian Robertson who says the vehicle will “redefine how we look at high-performance sports cars.”

Robertson said that while final pricing hasn’t been finalized, the Vision EfficientDynamics “will compete with Ferraris and high-end Porsches.” He said that pricing will be “less than £150,000 ($240,000),” which means we may see stateside pricing come in around $200,000. That significantly undercuts the Vision EfficientDynamics closest competitor – the Mercedes-Benz SLS E-CELL AMG, which is expected to start around $250,000 when it hits dealers in 2013.

Refresher: Power for the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics prototype comes from a 1.5L 3-cylinder turbo diesel engine mated to a hybrid synchronous motor at the front axle and a full-hybrid engine at the rear axle. Jointly the system will produce an output of 328-hp. 0-60 mph comes in just 4.8 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph. Fuel-economy is estimated at 63 mpg and the concept can provide 31 miles of zero-emissions driving. The production version of the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics will go on sale in 2013.
