Before we get started… we’d like to point out that the Ford Fusion is actually a subcompact minivan in Europe – to us it’s just a very well made sedan.
According to sources that spoke with Automotive News Europe, Ford of Europe plans on showing a concept version of a small minivan that will replace the Fusion minivan at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show in March. The new subcompact minivan will challenge the Opel Meriva, Europe’s top-spelling small minivan, and will go into production by the end of next year at FoMoCo’s plant in Craiova, Romania. Sales will begin in early 2012.
While a Ford of Europe spokesman wouldn’t confirm the report, he said that the company has previously confirmed its production plans at the Craiova plant: “It is a B-segment vehicle and will go into full production early in 2012.”
The new minivan will most likely be based on the Ford Fiesta and will carry the B-Max name.
