41% potential car shoppers say ‘Buy American’ is top factor

There are many factors considered by a potential car buyer, and one such factor returning to popularity is, ‘Buy American”. According to the latest Rasmussen Reports national phone survey, 41% of Adults say that buying American is a top priority when car shopping, as opposed to just 12% who prefer foreign cars. 44% say they seek out the best possible deal without regard to domestic or import status. In 2008, only 32% placed buying American high on the list.

There is some discernment however, on what exactly qualifies as buying American. Forty-one percent believe buying a foreign car manufactured here qualifies, while 42% do not.

Fifty-four percent of people earlier this month said that they were less likely to buy a GM car because of the government’s ownership stake.
