Report: Next Lexus IS to share platform with Toyota FT-86

The Lexus IS is long due for a overhaul. According to a report by Road&Track, the next-generation IS sedan is scheduled to make its debut sometime in 2013.
Insiders say that work on the next Lexus IS has already begun and that the model will be based on the Toyota FT-86’s rear-wheel-drive platform. Engineers are planning to stretch out the FT-86 chassis to keep the IS as a sporty offering.
The Toyota FT-86 will debut in June 2012 with a 2.0L flat 4-cylinder from Subaru (it is expected to debut at the 2011 New York Auto Show). The Lexus IS will get a 2.5L 4-cylinder and a 3.6L flat 6-cyinder. The 2014 Lexus IS F will continue with its current high-power V8 engine.
