BREAKING: 2012 Audi A6 sedan revealed, Audi A6 Hybrid confirmed

Well that was quick. We just saw leaked imaged of the 2012 Audi A6 and now we have official details and high-res photos straight from Audi. The 2012 Audi A6 will hit dealerships in early 2011 with “groundbreaking solutions in every area of technology. ”

The 2012 Audi A6 will be offered with five engine choices including three gasoline units and three TDI diesel units – output will range from 177-hp to 300-hp. The engines obtain their fuel through direct injection; the 3.0 TFSI employs a supercharger to achieve boost, and the 2.0 TFSI and TDI operate with turbochargers. Which is the most powerful and which is the most efficient?

The most powerful engine offered with the new 2012 A6 sedan will be the 3.0 TFSI unit making 300-hp and 324 lb-ft of torque. That allows the Audi A6 3.0 TFSI to go from 0-62 mph in 5.5 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph. The most efficient engine is the new 2.0 TDI 4-cylinder making 177-hp with a maximum torque of 280 lb-ft. It allows the A6 to go from 0-62 mph in 8.7 seconds with a top speed of 142 mph. In the EU cycle, it requires just 4.9 liters per 100 km (or 48 U.S. mpg).

Audi also confirmed the A6 Hybrid, which will follow at a later date (TBA). The A6 Hybrid will be the second hybrid model from Audi after the Q5 Hybrid quattro. Power for the Audi A6 Hybrid comes from a 2.0 TFSI engine making 211-hp, which works together with an electric motor that delivers 45-hp and 155.63 lb-ft of torque. The system sends power to the front wheels via a modified 8-speed tiptronic transmission. 0-62 mph comes in 7.3 seconds with a top speed of 148 mph. Audi says that the A6 Hybrid can travel at speeds of up to 62 mph purely on electricity and at a constant speed of 37.28 mph for up to 1.8 miles. Fuel-economy wise the Audi A6 Hybrid averages 6.2 liters per 100 km – or 38 U.S. mpg.
