Next-generation Mazda6 to get heavy Shinari design cues

2010 LA: Mazda Shinari Concept

Mazda took about three years to move its previous Nagare design language from concept to actual production form. However, the new Shinari styling language, which is being overseen by new design boss Ikuo Maeda, will take just 18 months to move from concept to production.

Sources tell Automotive News that the redesigned Mazda6 sedan will get heavy Shinari design cues.

The next-generation Mazda6 is due in the spring of 2012. The model is expected to carry over the existing platform but will get some handling and braking upgrades.

Refresher: The Mazda Shinari Concept is a four-door-coupe study that shows the future design direction for the brand. Mazda said that it will use the word ‘Kodo’ (Japanese for soul of motion) to describe the new design language, which was created through a collaboration between Mazda’s styling studios in Germany, the United States and Japan.
