Speaking with investors about Chrysler”s third-quarter earnings three days ago, Chrysler/Fiat CEO said he is looking to expand the use of the Jeep Grand Cherokee platform within Chrysler and Fiat. On the Fiat side, Marchionne plans on using the Cherokee platform for a Maserati SUV and an Alfa Romeo SUV.

Well, it seems like Volkswagen Group’s Lamborghini brand is already coming up with a competitor. According to reports coming out of UK, Lamborghini is working on a successor to the LM002. The model will be a high-performance SUV based on the same platform as the Audi Q5 and the forthcoming Porsche Cajun.

Known as the Lamborghini LM00X, the model will get its power from the 4.0L twin-turbo V8 that will debut in the Audi S7 next year. It will be uprated to produce 550-hp allowing 0-62 mph to come in less than 4 seconds… in an SUV!

Lamborghini will use the carbon fiber technology in the Sesto Elemento Concept to keep weight down, while suspension, brakes and dampers will all be specially developed to cope with the horsepower.

When can you expect to see the Lamborghini LM00X? Sometime in 2012.
