2010 LA Preview: Mitsubishi previews North American i-MiEV
The 2010 LA Auto Show is right around the corner and Mitsubishi today is previewing its most important debut of the show – the North American version of the i-MiEV electric-car.
“The North American version of the i-MiEV, in comparison to the Japanese- and European-spec i-MiEVs, features an enhanced, enlarged body structure to secure plenty of space for four adults and better meet the expectations of U.S. consumers,” said Mitsubishi. “In addition, the North American-spec i-MiEV’s front and rear bumpers are all-new. Airbags that detect passengers and control deployment force, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and Active Stability Control (ASC) are all standard equipment.”
Power for the i-MiEV comes from a 63-hp electric-motor and a 330-volt lithium-ion battery system, that allows the car to travel 80 to 100 miles on a single charge. Sales are expected to begin in fall of 2011.
