While Hyundai continues to take over the American football advertising spots with heavy spending during Super Bowl time, sister company Kia has decided to focus its attention on the National Basketball Association (NBA). The company has signed a two-year extension of its sponsorship deal with the NBA through the league’s 2011-2012 season.
Financial terms were not released but the new deal expands Kia’ sponsorship to make the brand the official automotive partner of NBA All-Star events and the NBA Cares charity. Kia will also be the title sponsor of the NBA All-Star MVP award. The deal will also have two Kia-branded, two-hour NBA specials, called Countdown to NBA Tipoff, airing on ESPN.
The 2011 Kia Optima will also become the official vehicles of the NBA for the season with a new NBA-themed ad introducing the 2011 Optima to be aired.
Refresher: The base 2011 Kia Optima is powered by a 200 hp, 2.0L GDI turbo 4-cylinder. Buyers can opt for a 274-hp 2.0L GDI 4-cylinder turbo or wait for the 2.4L hybrid variant due out in early 2011. Sales begin fall 2010 with an estimated starting price of $18,995.
