General Motors is scheduled to make an announcement at Orion Assembly in Lake Orion, Mich. tomorrow around 2 p.m. According to sources, GM’s North America President Mark Reuss will announce that the automaker will build the Buick Verano, a new compact sedan, at its Orion plant. UAW leaders and Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm will also join Reuss on stage.
The Buick Verano is simply a version of the Buck Excelle GT, which is currently sold in China. The model is available in China in six variants with prices ranging between RMB 137,700 ($20,168 USD) and RMB 189,700 ($27,785 USD).
The 2011 Excelle GT is available with three powertrains including a 1.6L and 1.8L ECOTEC engines as well as a 1.6L turbocharged engine. The turbocharged engine makes 135-hp and can accelerate the car from from 0 to 62 mph in 9 seconds.
The Buick Excelle GT (as well as the upcoming Verano) is based on the same platform of the Chevrolet Cruze.
