Scion Hako still being considered for production, brand may get its own Toyota FT-86

Scion Hako Concept

The 2011 Scion tC is getting ready to hit dealerships with a starting price tag of $18,995 ““ an increase of $1,175 over the 2010 model. Is that all the Toyota-owned brand has in the works? Not at all. The Scion iQ, a stateside version of the Toyota iQ, will arrive shortly after the 2011 tC.

While cost targets are a problem, Toyota still hasn’t ruled out doing a production version of the Hako Concept, which made its debut at the 2008 New York Auto Show. The production model could replace the xD or be an addition to Scion’s lineup.

The brand is also considering a compact performance vehicle. According to reports, the model would be based on the rear-wheel-drive platform of the upcoming Toyota FT-86, which is being developed with Subaru. The Scion model would come in at a lower price than the $20,000 target of the Toyota FT-86. The model may also carry a different design theme.
