According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website, Hyundai is recalling 139,500 Sonata sedans from the 2011 model year. The recall includes those models manufactured from December 2009 to September 2010.

The NHTSA said that “on some of these vehicles the steering column intermediate shaft universal joint connections may have been either improperly assembled or insufficiently tightened.” That could result in a reduction or loss of steering.

The recall is expected to start in October and dealers will inspect and update the power steering software for free. In the meantime, if you own a 2011 Hyundai Sonata you can contact the Hyundai Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-633-5151, or the NHTSA vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
