Acura’s future still has no V8, planning compact based on Honda Civic

2011 Acura TSX Sport Wagon

Last year was a pretty exciting year for Acura dealers as they were promised a V8 engine, a rear-wheel-drive platform and a sports car to replace the much-loved NSX – all the formulas needed to be a successful luxury automaker. Now, all those dreams have died for the brand, we’re pretty confused what Acura plans on doing to moving its luxury image more upmarket.

So far in the works is a new compact vehicle based on the next-generation Honda Civic. Acura left the compact segment in 2006 when it discontinued the production of the RSX – and don’t worry, Acura doesn’t want to just bring the Canadian market CSX here, which is a rebadged Honda Civic.

The Honda Civic based model is expected to arrive sometime in 2012 as a 2013 model year.
