FoMoCo has plans to launch eight new vehicles in India over the next five years to increase its presence in one of the fastest-growing emerging regions.

“We have big plans for India and for this region,” Joe Hinrichs, president of Ford Asia Pacific and Africa, said in a speech prepared for delivery today to an industry conference in New Delhi. “By the middle of this decade, we will introduce eight new vehicles to India from our global platforms.”

The Dearborn automaker expects to generate close to 70 percent of its global sales over the next decade in Asia Pacific and Africa markets. It is hoping to increase volume in the fast-growing emerging markets, where its competitor General Motors already has a big presence.

Last year in India, Ford launched a new compact called the Figo and invested $500 million into its Chennai plant, to build the compact car.
