Scratch that: No mid-engine Corvette in the works, hybrid powertrain a possibility

General Motors CEO Ed Whitare confirmed last week that a new Chevrolet Corvette is in works. He said that the new Corvette “looks quite different. It”s totally redesigned inside and out.” If that wasn’t enough to get us excited, rumors of a mid-engined Corvette with a double-clutch transmission had us jumping out of our seats.

But now, GM is denying all that – not the part that there will be a new Corvette – but the part about a mid-engine Corvette with a dual-clutch transmission. According to Karl-Friedrich Stracke, GM’s vice president of global vehicle engineering, there is no mid-engine Corvette coming in 2014. He also said that there is no plan for a wet dual-clutch transmission.

When asked if GM will drop V8’s in the Corvette for a V6 powertrain, Stracke simply said: GM is not testing a V6 Corvette. When asked if a hybrid powertrain will ever make it in a Corvette, Stracke said: “That is an interesting idea.”

Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
