Smart Roadster to return as result of Mercedes, Renault-Nissan partnership
There will be many products that will come out as a result of the recent tie-up between Daimler and Renault-Nissan and one of them is reported to be the return of the Smart Roadster. Sources say that a new Roadster is just one of the several future models being discussed for the Smart brand as Mercedes-Benz plans to expand its city car lineup.
“A new Roadster is one being discussed,” a source told AutoCar. “The Renault merger could lead to several Smart spin-offs; Renault has small car expertise that we can benefit from.”
The insider said that Smart is also considering a larger model in the wake of the Mini Countryman.
Smart is set to show an electric-scooter concept at the 2010 Paris Motor Show later this year.
