Next Mercedes-Benz A-Class to get AMG variant
We recently learned that the upcoming upgrade for the Mercedes-Benz A-Class will be based on a front-wheel-drive platform with design cues taken from the F800 Concept. That had us dreaming of an AMG model and today it’s been reported that Mercedes-Benz’s AMG unit is working on a hot-hatch A-Class that will take on the likes of the Volkswagen Golf R and the Ford Focus RS.
Powered by a combination of a supercharged 4-cylinder engine and four-wheel-drive, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class AMG is expected to make around 270-hp and 280 lb-ft of torque.
“It marks the beginning of a new direction for the company and will expose AMG to a whole new, younger and more dynamic customer base,” says Ola Kallenius, AMG”s new boss.
Sales of the next-generation A-Class are scheduled to start in 2012 and the AMG model should follow shortly after.
