Rumor: Lamborghini working on entry level V8 supercar, SUV

In recent times, even niche automakers have been forced into more mainstream operations in the name of profitability. Porsche and, to a lesser extent, Ferrari are examples of this trend, which now has a new adoptee – Lamborghini.

Rumor has it that the iconic Italian supercar company plans on building a new entry level V8 model underneath their current entry, the Gallardo. Lamborghini has some experience with V8 compact cars, as it released several in the 1970s and 1980s to compete with other supercar makers.

It is also rumored that Lamborghini will build a new SUV, likely””given its VW parentage””on the same platform as the Touareg and Porsche Cayenne. Predated by Lamborghini”s LM002 in the mid 1980s, this model should adopt the instantly recognizable image of new-age Lamborghinis, and find a niche in a land that has only recently come into being- Supercars, Inc.

More Lamborghinis should find no opposition in a room of car lovers, but is the expansion at the expense of the brand”s exclusivity? Is it a tradeoff worth making? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
