Report: Cheaper Maserati sedan on track for 2014

Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S

Earlier this year when Fiat Group CEO Sergio Marchionne revealed the company’s 5-year business plan he confirmed that Maserati is working on a baby-Quattroporte sedan that will compete with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the BMW 5-Series.

The mid-size Maserati luxury sedan is scheduled to hit markets in 2014 as a 2015 model, which means a working prototype is still a good two years away. We’re guessing Maserati is just finishing up putting the design touches on the new baby sedan, which is aimed at making the brand a relevant played when it comes to the luxury segment.

So far, reports suggest that there will be two variants of the mid-size Maserati. The entry level version will be priced just above $68,000, while the top-of-the-line model will be about 20 percent more expensive.

Both models will have Maserati DNA so that means you should expect precise handling, rich sounding engines and a stylish exterior.
