Sources say that Infiniti is planning to launch a compact front-wheel-drive coupe that will help expand the brand’s range and help it take a share of Europe’s premium compact market. Insiders say that the new small Infiniti will have a coupe-like profile but will offer the practicality of a 3-door hatch – think of it as a competitor to the Mercedes-Benz CLC.
Sources told AutoCar that the car will be in a hatchback format “but not as you know it .”
“A car can be front-wheel drive and still deliver driving pleasure,” said an Infiniti source. “BMW has shown this with the Mini.”
Don’t expect the compact Infiniti to make it to the U.S. market since it will be aimed primarily at Europeans. Design of the car is said to be similar to the Essence compact, which will inspire basically ever future Infiniti model.
