Toyota plans recall for engine glitch, 4 million unintended acceleration recalls fixed

Toyota said it may recall up to 270,000 vehicles worldwide to fix an engine glitch. The announcement, expected to be announced Monday, consists of 90,000 high-end sedans and 180,000 vehicles that were sold outside of Japan.

The recall will also include 137,000 vehicles Lexus sedans in the U.S. including the IS 350, GS 350, GS 460, GS 450h, LS 460, LS 600h L.

Separately, Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A said it has repaired more than 4 million vehicles affected by recalls linked to unintended acceleration. General manager of Toyota Division, Bob Carter, said that 78 percent of 2.3 million vehicles falling under the “sticky pedal” recall have been repaired.

UPDATE: Lexus has just confirmed that it has informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of its intention to recall approximately 138,000 Lexus vehicles, powered by 4.6 and 5.0L V8 and 3.5L V6 engines in certain 2006, 2007 and 2008 GS, IS and LS models in the U.S. Customers with questions or concerns should contact the Customer Experience Center at 1-800-255-3987.
