2010 Lexus LS

Earlier this morning Toyota said that 270,000 vehicles sold worldwide, including luxury Lexus sedans, have faulty engines. Of the 270,000 vehicles with engine problems, 180,000 were sold outside of Japan. We now have some additional details.

  • Toyota said that is considering “some kind of measure” that could be a recall depending on a decision from regulators.
  • The situation involves 8 high-end models, including Lexus and the Crown (sold in Japan) sedans, with 4.6L and 3.6L engines.
  • A Toyota spokeswoman said that the vehicles could have a problem with the valve spring in their engines that may cause them to idle trouble – leading to engine failure.
  • No accidents have been reported.
