Chrysler doing a ‘manly’ version of the Dodge Grand Caravan

Usually when you think of minivans you think of soccer moms – well, Chrysler Group LLC is out to change all that and is planning a “more macho” minivan that soccer dads won’t mind driving to practice in. The minivan will be a special version of the Dodge Grand Caravan and is expected to hit dealers within the next few months.

Chrysler declined to give out details but dealers said that Dodge brand Chief Executive Officer Ralph Gilles and Chrysler Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne, talked about a “man van” in Detroit late last month.

The vehicle will look sportier than the regular Dodge Grand Caravan and will have a black/gray interior with hot-colored stitching on the steering and seats.

“A man van won’t generate huge sales, but it’s one of those vehicles that gets people talking and heads turning,” said one dealer. “We need that now. I mean if it gets one guy to give the minivan a second look, its worth it.”
