New Saab 9-3 coming 2012, hatchback and convertible to follow
Saab announced Friday that it has hired former Bertone and Pininfarina designer Jason Castriota as its new design director, meaning Saab models are expected to get sexier than ever before. According to insiders, Saab is working on an all new 9-3, which will launch in 2012 and will be rebadged as a 93 (without the dash in the middle).
The new model will also reintroduce the hatchback version that will build on the classic 900 model. The new 93 will sit on a new platform, known as the “Phoenix Architecture.”
The Saab 93 sedan will be the first model based on the new architecture and will arrive some time in 2012. The sedan will be shortly followed by a three-door hatchback, a convertible and a Sport Wagon version.
All you hatch lovers should note that the while the 93 will be slightly bigger than the A3, Saab plans on keeping pricing competitive and similar to Audi’s baby.
