According to reports coming out of Japan, Mazda is developing a hybrid rotary powered roadster for 2012. The model is said to be a smaller and lighter replacement for the Mazda Miata MX-5.
Japan’s BestCar magazine reports that Mazda is looking fit its newly developed Sky-G Hybrid Rotary Engine in a 1.2L or 1.3L engine capacity for the Roadster. The magazine said that the move makes since the industry is being pulled towards a “Hybrid Sports” movement (yes, it’s pretty sad for us to hear that too).
Sources say that Mazda is also considering a 2.0L inline 4-cylinder for the replacement to the Mazda MX-5 roadster.
