As reported earlier this morning the next Mitsubishi Lancer Evo may be offered as a diesel hybrid. According to a report by AutoCar, the next Subaru Impreza STI will also offer a diesel model but is likely to keep its gasoline powered model as well.
The diesel Impreza STI will feature an enhanced version of the 2.0L turbodiesel offered in the current Impreza and should deliver outstanding torque and better fuel-economy. As for the gasoline model, the current 4-cylinder is expected to be downsized to the 1.5L flat four that powers the base Imprezas. Sources say Subaru also has hybrid technology planned for the next Impreza STI.
The next-generation STI is expected to debut in 2012.
