Lexus SC to be discontinued in July, replacement due in 2014

2010 Lexus SC

Lexus has made it official; the SC 430 luxury hardtop convertible is fast approaching the end of its lifecycle. The vehicle has gone largely unchanged for almost ten years, save for a few special editions.

Demand for the car has been on a steady decline since its high-point in 2002 when 14,462 units having been sold that year. In 2009, less than 1000 SC430″s were sold, and in this final year of production, Lexus will only produce approximately 300 cars. The SC 430 was no sleuth on the road; it derived its power from a 288 horsepower 4.3L V8 with 317 lb-ft of torque, and reached 60 mph in 5.8 seconds.

Those who still have an affinity for the car (numbers show that there aren”t many of you) needn”t despair. A next generation SC is reportedly due out in 2014 and will feature a 5.0L V8 coupled with hybrid electric system.
