BMW recalling 1-Series over fire hazard, stops delivery of model

BMW 1-Series

BMW has instructed dealers to hold delivery on all 1 Series vehicles produced between January and May of this year, so that a recall can be performed.

The recall, which also effects certain 2008-2011 model year 1 Series coupes and convertibles will address an issue of insufficient clearance between the seat belt tensioners and B pillar and the insulating material. It has been determined that in the case of a crash, the insulation could present a fire hazard.

BMW advises that repairs can begin immediately on dealer inventory, and that the fix consists of a fairly straightforward process. Owners will be notified to bring their BMW vehicle to an authorized dealer to fix the problem; dealers will trim the excess insulation at no cost to the vehicle owner. Those with questions about their recalled vehicle should contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417.
