Report: Saab in discussion with BMW on 9-2 compact

Victor Muller, CEO of Spyker Automotive and Chairman of Saab Automobile, is reportedly in discussion with BMW to use the latter”s engines and transmissions in the Saab 9-2. Muller has said that he is deep in talks with many potential partners about procuring a platform for Saab”s revival, the “9-2”.
It has also been reported that there are plans for BMW to supply a diesel engine for Saab”s city-jeep 9-4X, set to be launched in Europe starting in 2011. Though Spyker and BMW have declined to comment, the report also mentions a meeting scheduled for the end of June, whereby Saab and BMW will be discussing possibly building the 9-2 on BMW”s Mini platform.
A spokesperson for Saab has said that right now, the company is concentrating on the 9-5 and 9-4X. Though a smaller Saab than the 9-3 is not in the immediate business plan, it is something the company would like to consider for the future.
