General Motors Co. and Chrysler Group LLC are making the Obama administration really proud that they pumped in billions to save them from extinction. All of the Detroit 3 automakers posted a double-digit sales increase last month as a result of strong fleet sales and new vehicle sales.

GM’s Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac brand sales rose 32 percent last month compared to May 2009. All of the GM brands sold a total of 223,822 vehicles last month, helping the Detroit automaker post the fifth-consecutive month of double-digit sales gains.

FoMoCo sold a total of 192,253 vehicles last month. The 20 percent sales increase in May was the Dearborn automaker’s sixth consecutive month sales increase.

Chrysler reported a 33 percent increase and sold 104,819 vehicles. The increase marked the first time the Auburn Hills automaker crossed the 100,000 mark since March 2009.
