Hyundai confirmed today that it has no plans to add a pickup truck to its U.S. market lineup in “the foreseeable future.” The Korean automaker issued the statement in a response to Reuters report last week that the company plans on getting into the pickup truck market with a proposed partnership with Chrysler Group LLC.
It was reported earlier this week that Chrysler”s CEO, Sergio Marchionne, rejected Hyundai”s original offer in February and said that the company needs to concentrate on its turnaround plan under Fiat SpA.
Hyundai said in a statement that it was not currently in talks about selling a rebadged version of Chrysler’s Dodge Ram in the U.S. market.
“Hyundai Motor Co. denies that there are any current plans to bring a pickup truck of any type into the U.S. now or in the foreseeable future,” the company said. “Hyundai is not in discussion with Chrysler in regard to a selling a rebadged Chrysler Corp pickup truck, or any other vehicle, in the U.S.”
