Report: Lexus HS 250h sales are underperforming in the U.S.

According to data by WardsAuto, U.S. sales of the Lexus HS 250h hybrid are running below the automaker’s target. Lexus had originally hoped to sell 20,000 to 22,000 units annually in the U.S. but is on pace to deliver less than 14,000 in 2010.

In April alone, Lexus sold 1,076 units of the HS 250h with year-to-date sales coming in at 4,529 units.

Since the Lexus HS 250h went on sale in August 2009, the automaker has sold just 11,228 units.

Refresher: Power for the 2010 Lexus HS 250h comes from 2.4L Atkinson 4-cylinder engine and the Lexus Hybrid Drive System. The drivertrain, mated to a CVT transmission, produces a total of 187-hp. That allows the HS 250h to go from 0 to 60 mph in 8.4 seconds. The hybrid returns an EPA-estimated 35/34 mpg (city/highway) for a combined 35 mpg.
