According to a report by the Associated Press General Motors is planning on building a compact crossover at its Orion Township, Michigan factory. The new compact crossover, which we’ve heard about previously, will focus on attracting younger buyers to the brand.
A person familiar with the plans said that GM is starting to equip the Orion plant to build the new vehicle, which will share its underpinnings with the new Chevrolet Aveo subcompact. The Detroit automaker is currently moving equipment into Orion to build the new Aveo that will hit showrooms next year to compete with the Honda Fit and the Toyota Yaris.
Spokeswoman Dayna Hart would not confirm that the Orion plant will build the new Buick crossover, but said the model should hit showrooms within the next few years.
A compact sedan by the name of the Buick Excelle is also on the way.
