Alfa Romeo Giulietta to get 235-hp high-performance version

There is no doubt that Fiat SpA is planning a major overhaul of its Alfa Romeo brand, which is currently being led by the hot new Alfa Romeo Giulietta. According to a report by AutoCar, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta will be getting a performance version very soon.

It is unclear whether the high-performance Giulietta will be badged GTA or Cloverleaf, but it will be front-wheel-drive and will use the new 1750 TBi turbocharged gasoline engine with Multiair. The car was previewed at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show with the 235-hp engine and Cloverleaf cosmetic upgrades.

The model will use Alfa’s Q2 electronic differential and will also come with active dampers and Fiat’s new dual-clutch gearbox.

As for the Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA, production for the 240-hp hot-hatch looks unlikely. Basically Fiat is thinking that during the economic downturn, the current 168-hp Cloverleaf MiTo should be enough to satisfy high-performance needs.

We’re just hoping that Fiat brings the Giulietta and the MiTo to the United States.
