Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, who fought strongly from keeping GM and Chrysler going under, said yesterday that she supports Toyota as it struggles at Congress hearings on its recall of more than 8.5 million vehicles worldwide.
“We support Toyota,” Granholm said in an interview with The Detroit News. “We’re very supportive of them. I hope they are able to resolve their issues. It’s important for us and the whole industry.”
Toyota employs about 1,200 workers in Michigan at its Technical Center in Washtenaw County and Granholm has been talking to executives to get them to build an assembly plant in Michigan.
Granholm, however, was not amongst the six governors who wrote letters to Congress backing Toyota.
