According to Toyota’s general manager of the company’s U.S. division Bob Carter, the automaker has repaired around 500,000 of the 2.3 million vehicles recalled over a potentially sticky gas pedal and restarted sales of thousands more that were off the market.
Carter said that Toyota is weighing moves to win back consumer confidence once repairs are complete on vehicles that have been recalled. It was reported earlier this morning that Toyota is looking into offering new incentive programs and enhanced warranty protection to win back consumer faith in its cars.
“We are going to push the quality benchmark even further,” Carter said.
He said that around 80%, or 88,000 of 112,000, of the vehicles involved in the sales halt that began last month have been repaired by dealers and are now available for sale.
