GM to make the next Aveo at its Orion, Michigan plant

General Motors said that it will build the next-generation Chevrolet Aveo compact at its plant in Orion Township, Michigan, a spokeswoman confirmed yesterday. Mark Reuss, president of GM North America, said earlier this week that he thought the Aveo was salted for the plant.

“It’s been a long time since we’ve had small cars in the United States built in the United States that has had, I think, the attributes and the quality and the performance that these cars are going to have,” Reuss said at a Chevrolet event.

Production at the Orion plant ended at the end of Nov., which made the Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6.

The Detroit automaker had originally planned to make the car in China; however, in May, GM agreed to build a car in the United States in exchange for UAW concessions.
