Report: Nissan working on 240SX successor to compete with Toyota FT-86

Nissan Foria Concept

It seems like Nissan is feeling left out with all the hype surrounding Toyota’s FT-86 and Honda’s CR-Z. According to Inside Line, Nissan is now thinking of striking back with a new version of its 240SX sports car. Sources say that the next-generation model will feature styling inspired by the Foria concept that made its debut at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show.

The model will share its platform with a smaller version of the company’s FR-L platform, which is used on the 370Z and the Infiniti G.

The front-engine, rear-wheel-drive 2+2 coupe will come in as Nissan’s entry-level sports car with power coming from a 1.8L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine making around 200-hp. Weighing in around 2,800 lbs., the new 240SX will go from 0-60 mph in 6 to 7 seconds.

The model is expected to debut around 2011 or 2012.
