According to a report by AutoCar, Audi will produce 1,000 units of its e-tron electric sports car that looks like an R8 designed by Jacob the jeweler (check out our post from the 2009 LA Auto Show to see what we mean). Audi says that the car will be most certainly be priced above the R8 when it goes on sale in 2012.

“There are always people who want to be first to own new technology,” Achim Badstubner, Audi’s head of exterior design said.

Badstubner said that with a network of 5,000 dealers globally, 1,000 units was achievable. He added that Audi would build the e-trons to order and would stop short if they didn’t sell out.
