Report: Toyota Crossover hybrid will be next to wear Prius badge
Toyota recently confirmed that it will use the Prius name on more hybrid models in its U.S. lineup. It said that the Prius name would be attached to “a family of models” using similar hybrid powertrains. According to a report by AutoExpress, a new crossover/SUV hybrid will be the first model in a new range of Prius badged models.
The model is expected to be based on the Hybrid X concept that made its debut at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show. It will be similar in size to Nissan’s Qashqai and will be offered as a more practical and roomier hybrid than the current Prius.
Also, instead of using nickel-hydride cells, the new crossover hybrid will use a newly developed lithium-ion battery pack. You can look out for the new Prius model in 2011.
